Air Duct Sanitizing in Houston, TX
Call (713) 275-2016
Does sanitizing air ducts actually fix the smell?
Sometimes. It depends what is growing and where. Sanitizing treats surfaces. It does not dry a wet duct. Most Houston systems are flexible insulated duct run through a vented attic, tied into sheet-metal plenums and trunks. The cold supply runs sweat in attic humidity. Growth starts on the outer jacket, or inside the torn inner liner where fibers hold moisture. Spray the inside of a duct whose liner is already shredded and you have treated a wick. Fix the leak first.
We look at the boots at ceiling registers before anything else. Leaky boots pull humid attic air against cold metal. That is a condensation source, not a dirt source. Slab-level return plenums are the other one. They draw fine clay-silt dust straight off the floor, plus drywall sand and construction debris in newer builds.
Real sanitizing means removing loose debris first, then applying an EPA-registered antimicrobial rated for HVAC surfaces. Porous liner has limits. Badly contaminated flex gets replaced, not sprayed. We will say so.
Check it yourself. Pull a register cover. Look at the inner liner edge for black speckling or torn gray fiber. Feel the duct after a long cooling run for dampness.
