One room never cools. The register barely breathes. Maybe you hear air whistling above the ceiling, or you see gray fanning out around a vent face. In most Houston houses that traces back to flexible insulated duct lying in a vented attic. Flex kinks. Flex sags between supports. Someone stepped on a run while setting a water heater. Air never reaches the room because the pipe is pinched over a truss.

Inner liner tears are the quiet one. The liner splits, the air dumps into the insulation jacket, and the room goes starved. From below nothing looks wrong. We pull the boot or open the attic end and inspect the core, not the outer wrap.

Humidity drives the rest. Cold duct in a hot attic sweats when the vapor barrier is cut or the jacket is compressed. That wet fiberglass grows mold and stains the ceiling. Slab-level return plenums are the other offender, framed cavities under the stairs pulling attic air and fine clay-silt dust past the filter.

Repair means mastic and mesh at boots, new hangers at proper spacing, replacement of compromised runs, and sealing the return plenum. Patching tape over a torn liner is not a repair.
